The WHY behind the

WHAT!

In the developing country of the Dominican Republic, there is a large disparity in the quality of life for many of its citizens. This is most clearly seen with its underserved orphan children as well as those who have left the care of orphanages (“care leavers”). These individuals live below the poverty line and often deal with homelessness, poor health, and dangerous situations. It is with this vulnerable demographic in mind, as well as many others in this country with similar needs, that Koinoneo, Inc. was formed to join with the community in fellowship and service. More specifically, our organization will give benevolent assistance to individuals in need in the Dominican Republic. Koinoneo also gives charitable distributions to qualified organizations that provide basic needs and life skills training to orphaned children and care leavers.  Also, we assist organizations that provide similar services to others in the community who are in need. Through this outreach ministry, our organization may then fulfill the mission of bringing about a higher understanding of God and His presence, while meeting the needs of the underserved.

The initial effort of Koinoneo, Inc. is to support those who have recently left the care of an orphanage and children still in the orphanage system in the Dominican Republic, our plan is to expand this support to other vulnerable individuals in the community. These recipients would include those living at or below the poverty line, single parents with multiple children, the elderly, multi-generational households, the uneducated and unemployed, the handicapped, and those suffering from chronic illnesses. These individuals and families often do not have the opportunity to be productive members of society until their basic needs have been met. These needs include, but are not limited to, food and water, health and wellness, housing, education, vocational training, life skills and sustainability. Through this outreach ministry, our organization will be able to transform these struggling communities and give support to those in need.

Koinoneo, Inc. also gives charitable distributions to qualified organizations that provide similar services to underserved orphans and care leavers, such as assisting with basic needs and providing life skills training. Our board of directors exercises discretion as we identify and select suitable recipient organizations, ensuring that any and all recipients of funds are qualified 501(c)(3) organizations or activities that qualify as exempt under IRS requirements.

The plans for the future of the organization include educational programs with the young people. We plan to invest in the youth of this area by conducting vocational training and life skills, as well as mentoring programs. This is especially important for care leavers, or individuals 25 years or younger who were previously in the care of the orphanage system, as they have no family to teach them these skills.

Koinoneo, Inc. will continue to expand our support to vulnerable individuals in the community, as we minister to people living at or below the poverty line, single parents with multiple children, the elderly, multi-generational households, the uneducated and unemployed, the handicapped, and those suffering from chronic illnesses. We plan to develop and provide opportunities for these individuals by assuring that their basic needs have been met. Through our outreach ministry, our organization will continue to transform these struggling communities and giving support to those in need as we bring about a higher awareness of God’s presence.
